Welcome to Innovative Software Exploration
The Innovative Software Exploration course provides high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to participate in an exploration of the new innovative websites that are available for free. Students will discover websites to use for research, presentations, timelines, cloud-based storage, electronic correspondence, portfolios, and other emerging technology. The focus of the course is to establish and promote lifelong learning skills, employability, and Century 21st Learning Skills specifically Critical Thinking, Innovation, Creativity, and Information, Media, and Technology skills.
Students will develop essential skills for recognizing which type of media/technology to use for various projects in their education and future careers which will enhance their employability in the diverse workplaces available to them. Upon conclusion of the class students will be required to develop and present portfolios using the research techniques, websites, and technology skills learned throughout the class. Though many websites will be learned throughout this class, the main website used will be Edmodo which is where students will be turning in their work and can see what was discussed in class for each new topic along with videos shown in class. If you are a parent and would like access to the parent portion of Edmodo please send me an email and I can set that up for you.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this class students will have used the following websites:
1. Edmodo – educational social media
2. Google Docs – for use of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
3. Online communication options (SimpleMeet.Me, Join.Me, TodaysMeet)
4. School to Work Skills (Update the school’s website for the Business Department and the Career Center and eventually adding other school departments)
5. Various online researching options (WolframAlpha, DuckDuckGo, Google Scholar, Bing)
6. Cloud storage (Dropbox , OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive, and Amazon Cloud)
7. Online organization tools (Delicious, Symbaloo, Evernote)
8. Online presentation software (Prezi, Padlet, Thinglink)
9. Online timeline software (Dipity, Tiki-Toki, Timetoast)
10. Online word clouds (Tagxedo, Wordle, WordArt.com)
11. Online flyer options (Tackk, Smore)
12. Online animation options (GoAnimate, Scratch, Voki, Blabberize, Powtoon)
13. Online video options (Wideo, Tellagami, Animoto, Voicethread, PhotoShow)
14. Personal Web Design (Weebly, Wix, Google Sites)
15. Digital portfolios (Threering, Livebinders, Diigo)
